Thame Green Living recently scooped two prestigious awards amongst those given to some of Oxfordshire’s “inspirational” climate action heroes, who were honoured by the High Sheriff of Oxfordshire, Imam Monawar Hussain at a ceremony on 21st February 2022 . An award was also presented to #ThameTrees (a project of 21st Century Thame) for their extraordinary tree planting initiative .
One of three double award winners , Thame Green Living was awarded a prize in the community action category for its Thame Green Living Plan, while its founder and driving force Charles Boundy also won an individual award for his work. The TGL group created a 10-year environmental plan for Thame from 2020-30, focussing on the themes of biodiversity, water, air, energy, and waste.
Mr Boundy said: “It has been a big part of my life for eight years, from concept to delivery, after starting with a blank sheet of paper. ‘’
Eighteen groups, social enterprises, individuals, businesses, and other organisations picked up the High Sheriff’s Climate Action Heroes Awards for their schemes, ranging from wildlife restoration work to renewable energy projects.
Imam Monawar Hussain, the High Sheriff of Oxfordshire, said: “The climate emergency is the single biggest issue facing humanity and so I offer my heartfelt congratulations to all the recipients of this prestigious award. It has been humbling and inspiring to re
ad the nominations.’’
Going forward Thame needs to find more volunteers who are passionate to help everyone reduce carbon emissions and increase bio-diversity.
Thame Green Living continues to build its team of people needed to run with any of the 180 actions that are described in the Thame Green Living Plan.
Volunteers are needed to test air quality, create social media campaigns, apply for funding, encourage businesses to join in the movement whether to sponsor each project or to start their own sustainability journey. Every one of the residents of Thame will have skills that Thame Green Living needs to ensure that as much of the Thame Green Living Plan can be completed in the 10 years target.
Come and talk to those already involved to see where you can make your mark.
